“Served at the hotel is the extremely rare “Elephant Coffee,” a smooth-tasting coffee without bitterness. It’s a privilege to try it, and the preparation of the coffee is a whole ceremony and an attraction in itself.” — From our review
The Siam epitomizes the glamour of fine living, reflecting its owners’ obsessions — with Siamese culture and history, vintage cinema, jazz, and Art Deco aesthetics. From the quasi-Moroccan courtyard, through the soaring, black-and-white atrium dominated by palm trees and ending in 39 suites that exude colonial charm, the hotel is defined by a string of elegant spaces. The Siam celebrates sublime relaxation in the splendid Opium Spa, local traditions of Muay Thai boxing in a well-equipped gym, and intellectual pursuits through its library and a movie theatre. The hotel also has a large swimming pool, while its ten Pool Villas come with private pools, internal gardens, and a rooftop terrace.

Rosewood Bangkok may be located within the central business district but is one of the city’s most tranquil urban sanctuaries, removed from the noise of the city streets (similarly to how we felt about the Rosewood Beijing hotel). Guests at the Bangkok hotel benefit from Rosewood’s Sense®Spa, inspired by Thailand’s ancient healing traditions, excellent restaurants and bars, and a whiskey parlor. The hotel has 159 light-flooded guest rooms and 23 suites and Pool Sky Villas featuring large terraces and private pools. There is also a well-equipped fitness center and a swimming pool.

Few hotels in Thailand hold as esteemed a position as Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. Established in 1876 and now close to 150 years old, it is still one of the classiest luxury hotels in Bangkok and a favorite of royals, public personas, and old-money types. The accommodation is opulent yet toned-down, refined, and contemporary — from standard Superior rooms decked out in dark teak decor to the incredible Authors Suite with butler service and floor-to-ceiling windows and Siam Suite, featuring antique Chiang Mai furniture. Among the facilities are ten different in-house dining options, a world-class fitness center, a tennis court, and several large swimming pools. A flower-adorned spa, uniquely located on the other side of the river, comprises fourteen suites in a traditional Thai house. It offers one of Thailand’s best spa experiences. And you can be sure that the service at Mandarin Oriental is honed to perfection.

This urban resort with a fabulous spa occupies a prime riverfront spot in the heart of Thailand’s capital. The hotel was designed by Jean-Michel Gathy (known for the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore or the Chedi Muscat in Oman). For the Four Seasons in Bangkok, the celebrated hotel architect envisioned a series of integrated indoor and outdoor spaces, bamboo-fringed courtyards, gardens, cascading waterfalls, and mirror infinity pools extending into the river. The hotel offers 299 rooms and suites, many with garden terraces, but the hotel’s top accommodation is the extraordinary two-floor Presidential Suite, featuring a rooftop terrace and private pool.

Following its recent entry into the competitive hospitality scene of the Thai capital, Capella has gained a reputation as one of the most attractive luxury hotels in Bangkok. And no wonder. The level of luxury and excellent amenities and facilities make Capella a destination hotel. One of the two gourmet restaurants is helmed by a Michelin-starred chef. The Veranda guest rooms are equipped with private plunge pools, while the Riverside Villas benefit from private gardens and swimming pools right on the river’s edge. There is a massive Auriga Spa and a large swimming pool (fringed by white-and-blue parasols), from which guests can watch the river traffic. The excellent concierge at Capella Bangkok includes Capella Culturist, who is here to personalize the stay for every guest.

The celebrated NY-based design firm, Yabu Pushelberg, is mainly responsible for Park Hyatt Bangkok’s concept of swanky interiors and a “private residence” atmosphere. They also designed the hotel’s dining space, which is spread over three and a half floors and comprises several venues, including a VIP area and a restaurant with an open kitchen. The hotel occupies the top 24 floors of the Central Embassy skyscraper in Bangkok’s CBD, containing 222 luxurious, thoughtfully appointed rooms and suites amid a mixed-use complex. “The Banyan Tree’s famous Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar on the 61st floor take the crown as the most spectacular dining venue in Bangkok.” — From our review
Banyan Tree Bangkok is widely regarded as one of the top luxury hotels in Bangkok. It occupies a custom-built high-rise near Silom Road, famous for shopping and entertainment, and boasts elegant interiors that evoke old-world Thai glamour and service that exemplifies Thailand’s warm hospitality.
The hotel has a fabulous spa, and its roof is dominated by one of the most spectacular dining venues in the city. Make sure to pop to The Moon Bar, next to the restaurant, for sunset drinks. Insider’s tip: for unique benefits and the best views from the room, book one of the Premier suites (or higher).

“Some people may find the style of this hotel a little over the top, but we loved it. With its contemporary, fashion-oriented approach, So/Bangkok ticked off many boxes for us: as a concept, as a comfortable city hotel, and as a stopover with a young-at-heart vibe.” — From our review
Attractive, stylish, and luxury-loving, SO/Bangkok is defined by its design. It delights with a daring mix of bold ideas and luxurious style that mixes French and Thai influences (starting with the staff outfits designed by Christian Lacroix). In-vogue art fills the eye-catching ninth-floor lobby, and postmodern sculptures adorn many other places in the hotel. All this stands in surprising harmony with the toned-down guest rooms and suites, designed around the “fundamental elements” from the Chinese Wuxing philosophy. The charming SO Spa’s decor is in Wood theme, with suspended tree trunks and wooden slats resembling a forest. There are five dining and drinking places, and the hotel and the lobby lounge doubles as Mixo, a cocktail hangout. Chocolab, a gourmet chocolate boutique, was our favorite to re-visit. Check some of the Instagram shots from our stay: from our suite, the sunset bar, and the famous Clocks Wall!

COMO Metropolitan Bangkok feels far from Bangkok’s traffic yet only steps away from the Central Business District’s shopping, restaurants, and nightlife — thanks to its quiet location in the Sathorn neighborhood. The rooms and suites bask in natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows, and their decor includes curated Asian antiques and features mosaic and limestone bathrooms. The accommodation has generous sizes for the price range in the city; some suites even feature private terraces. A particular draw to COMO Metropolitan are two different restaurants: Nahm, hailed as one of the top restaurants in Asia (serving innovative modern Thai cuisine), and Glow, specializing in health-focused organic COMO Shambhala Cuisine. “Grand and lavish, with Michelin-starred cuisine and impeccably trained staff, the Japanese-inspired Okura is imbued with a sense of sophisticated restraint.”
Okura celebrates the feeling of remoteness, especially in the lobby on the 24th floor, which is spacious, light-filled, and nearly silent. The serene ambiance is also present in the rooms and suites. There are 240 of them, all offering city views through triple-glazed panoramic windows. The simple décor of the interiors combines browns and white tones, and its quality oozes comfort and exclusive luxury, complemented by state-of-the-art amenities. The pool, cantilevered from the 25th floor of the building, is the hotel’s standout feature. From certain angles, it appears as if the water is suspended in the air, and for the swimmers, the pool promises vertigo-inducing views. The Okura has excellent dining options, and its Spa offers varied massage sessions with a menu that includes Japanese ceremonies.

A former bank building in Bangkok’s Chinatown houses a tiny hotel infused with a strong visual aesthetic that renders itself well to viral Instagram pics. The hotel’s creators preserved and enhanced the neoclassical building’s original patina. The unique interior design embraces odd objects, including taxidermy and still-functional rotary-dial phones, while the original vault door now opens a bathroom. The hotel’s ten guest rooms are unique in size and layout but always spacious and richly decorated. Freestanding bathtubs serving as centerpieces in the guest rooms offer an ideal Instagram set-up. The facilities don’t match big chain hotels (e.g., there is no pool, no hotel bar), but the service, friendly and personalized, matches the ethos of a small-scale boutique hotel.

The youthful, over-the-top glamour and strong design ideas we know W Hotels for can all be found in the supremely elegant W Bangkok. The visually arresting style, full of pop culture references, postmodern quirkiness, and a movie-backdrop feel, is aimed at fashion-aware guests. Everything here has the trademark W approach, from design choices, such as black marble walls and striking lighting, to the background dance music that welcomes guests and follows them through the public spaces. The rooms and suites are much quieter, though, and are focused on polished luxury. W Bangkok has a spa and gym, outdoor pool, and restaurants, with the House on Sathorn as the flagship venue in a 130-year-old townhouse.
