Occupying the beautiful, tiny Muravandhoo Island in Raa Atoll, Joali differentiates itself by offering an experience of refined simplicity. The resort emphasizes the essentials of luxury experience: craftsmanship, comfort, and service — all honed to perfection. The resort is well-built and beautifully designed, it serves terrific food and is staffed with people who care about their work and the experience of their guests. And this, dare we say, is quite enough to create magic. But there is more.

The design of the resort blends timeless elegance with themes of playfulness, for example in the commissioned art pieces, or fun structures. Dinner in a house-sized manta ray, anyone? A photo-op in a bird’s head, weaved out of wicker? You’ve got it.
The core of the resort experience is captured in the “Joy of Living” slogan. For us, this joy came through the service, the atmosphere, and the excellent cuisine, one of the definite highlights (see the What We Love section of our Joali Maldives review).
“It’s not easy for a new resort to truly stand out, especially in a destination teeming with some of the most attractive hotels in the world. But Joali managed to do it—indeed, we place it among the Top Resorts in the Maldives with the real wow factor.” — From our review of Joali Maldives
The over-water villa we stayed in made a huge impression on us. The sense of space and refinement was incredible. From the lounge area to the bedroom, and from the freestanding bathtub in the middle of the bathroom (see it on our Instagram) to the sundeck with the absolute beast of a swimming pool, the design was awesome. Made us all giddy!
We loved the sophisticated interior design too, created by the Istanbul-based studio Autoban. The concept combines Maldivian character and solid craftsmanship with high-tech and contemporary art.
Every time we visit Maldives, we design our trip around the island hopping experience, traveling around the archipelago, and staying at several resorts. During this trip, we checked in at Vakkaru, Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi — and JOALI. This was our sixth time in the Maldives, and thanks to the stay at Joali, we finished it on a high note.
