Wiesergut, Saalbach-Hinterglemm

We are beach holiday types at Travel+Style—tend to think winter is good only for long evenings by crackling fire with hot lemon tea and a blanket. All the same, snow fun is good fun, and one of the best places to enjoy it is Saalbach-Hinterglemm, the home of Wiesergut.

The beautiful valley of Hinterglemm lies over a thousand meters above sea level within the skiing and hiking area called Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm Leogang. The whole thing makes up for its unpronounceable name with the picturesque Alpine landscapes—and the superbly designed Wiesergut.

Minimal and warm

The hotel comprises converted manor house and contemporary concrete-and-glass Garden Suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, offering direct access to ski slopes. The white four-story manor house towers above them, its façade minimal and sharp.

While the manor suites match the outer aesthetic of the big house, the pavilions below are darker and somewhat more rustic, with wood paneling on the ceiling and stone panels on the walls.

All are sleek yet warm, constructed from wood, stone and steel and kept in monochrome earthy palettes, with custom-made furniture to match—and lots of space and light.

Luxury with heritage

The Wiesergut hotel belongs to a family that owned the plot of land that the hotel stands upon since the 14th century, with the first guest house opened here some two generations ago.

Today the hotel promises a unique hospitality experience that comes from the mix of age-old traditions and contemporary innovation.

What we love

• Beautiful architecture by Monika Gogl from Gogl & Partners Architekten and interiors by Isabel Hamm, Petra Lindenbauer, Andreas Reichlin;
• Breakfasts are à la carte (no buffet breakfasts), offered in the restaurant, guests can also choose to have them served in their suite or on the terrace;
• Beautiful, minimal fireplace as the centerpiece of each suite;
• Food is locally produced, some come from the hotel garden—and is served in beautiful pottery dishes and bowels, also hand-made in the area;
• Perfect after skiing—or on a rainy day—is the spa, with heated pool, sauna and gym. There is also a private rooftop spa treatment room with a fireplace.

What you should know

• The twin valley towns of Saalbach and Hinterglemm are located two hours away from the city of Salzburg;
• The area hosted the 1991’s Alpine World Ski Championship;
• Guests have direct access to the slopes of the Zwölfkogler lift station;
• The hotel is relatively new and the greenery surrounding the glass villas is not tall enough to provide privacy;
• There is no outdoor pool;
• The hotel provides golf and winter sports equipment (skis, snowboards and more).
