With old photos of Ferragamo himself pictured with his famous clients—like Ava Gardner, Sophia Loren, Marlene Dietrich, and Audrey Hepburn—lining the staircase at Portrait Roma, the atmosphere resembles the spirit of a fashion atelier or film set.

Designed by the celebrity Florentine architect, Michele Bönan the hotel reflects the splendor and luxury of 1950’s Rome. Dedicating each suite to a grand personality, the architect pays tribute to the extraordinary style of Salvatore Ferragamo.

Other than the small reception area, the only communal space is the stunning roof terrace ensuring amazing views over the Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps.

Rooms

The hotel has just fourteen suites and studios, all effortlessly stylish and contemporary, each of them with huge beds, modern bathrooms, and well equipped to high-tech specs, including plasma TV’s and hi-speed internet.

Some have their own private balconies and terraces, and two suites offer a sauna and a fitness corner. Designed in greys, creams and earth tones, with subtle pops of baby pink and citrusy lime, the suites combine vintage chic with contemporary glamour.

What you should know

• Public spaces are very limited with a tiny reception area and no restaurant, therefore breakfast is served in the room or, when weather permits, on the roof terrace;
• Studio rooms are rather small, with little natural light;
• There is no swimming pool;
• Portrait Roma is around 30 minutes from Rome Fiumicino airport, a short taxi (or tube) ride from Rome Termini train station and a few minutes’ walks from the Spagna metro station;
• Room service runs from 7 am-11 pm;
• Smoking is not allowed in public areas.
