andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge

The Great Rift Valley is perhaps most impressive at one of Tanzania’s smaller wilderness enclaves, the Lake Manyara National Park. Forest setting

Set in the heart of a verdant mahogany forest, andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge comprises only ten treehouse suites, clung to the tree trunks and incorporating them as part of the environmentally friendly design.

In fact, no trees were axed during the construction, and their boughs are often included in the architecture of the suites.

Built using local wood and covered by the traditional makuti roofs, the suites invite the lush forest inside thanks to the large windows and decks suspended above the forest floor.

Safari romance

The design exhibits a sophisticated blend of intimacy and romance, ensuring privacy and exclusivity in cool, leafy surroundings. Its use of warm tones and generous space renders the rustic decòr luxurious and elegant.

Fitted with contemporary furnishing in neutral colors and textures, the classically elegant bedrooms feature overhead fans and billowing mosquito nets that set the perfect safari ambiance.

The most unique design feature of the interiors are the intertwined chains made from banana leaves, functioning as screens that separate the bedroom from the sitting area.

Tanzanian wilderness

With the exception of Black Rhinos, the area is richly populated with any type of African game, including the spectacular flamingos, in flocks of hundreds of birds.

The area is also famous for the tree-climbing lions, of which there are several families in the park.

Safari rides and luxury

As the only lodge in the area, the guests of the andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge enjoy some unique attractions. The exclusive safari in the remote, game-rich wilderness is one (on offer are morning, afternoon and night game drives), but there are also private sundowners and lakeshore picnics.

The swimming pool and personalized massages in the privacy of the guest’s own suite make a perfect end of the busy day.

Tanzania’s Lake Manyara National Park offers a true wilderness experience and the Lodge enjoys a great location, deep in the wilderness. It’s the only lodge inside the Lake Manyara’s park boundaries.

An excellent place to kick off a safari journey in Tanzania.

What we love

• The lodge’s design, reflecting its location with a romantic styling of thatched roofs and wooden floors matched by a comfortable contemporary furnishing;
• The surroundings themselves provide a unique nightly experience: the treehouses are part of the wild forest and plenty of noisy animals disturb the nocturnal silence;
• In-room massages, conducted by a professional masseuse;
• There are only ten intimate elevated tree suites, each with their own private deck;
• Superb game viewing (including the tree-climbing lions), with safari drives during the day and at night;
• The park enjoys an incredible variety of habitats and wildlife (the soda lake with pink flamingos!)

What you should know

• There are two game drives daily, night drives come at an additional cost;
• The lodge is not fenced off and guests must be extremely vigilant at all times. The lodge’s rules say that staff must accompany guests when walking around the lodge at night;
• A number of airlines operate scheduled flights from Dar es Salaam to Lake Manyara Airstrip (twice-daily);
• The journey to the lodge will also include the drive from the airport, which is long and bumpy (well over 2 hours)—but this is like a game drive itself, with a scenic route through the national park.
